Analyzing GridGuard Logs

The SyferLock GridGuard-VA virtual appliance has many services and applications running at any point in time. This makes diagnosing issues complex at times.  To help customers be more informed about what is happening inside their GridGuard-VA virtual appliance, it is always good to check the logs. The main log files that are used are the following:

  • /var/log/local4.log - this log file contains the J2EE & LDAP server output.
  • /var/log/radius/radiusd.log - this log file contains the RADIUS server output.
  • /var/log/httpd/ssl_error_log - this log file contains the web server errors.
  • /var/log/httpd/ssl_access_log - this log file contains the web server access entries.

These files are just standard text file so nothing special is needed to view them.  If you wish to work with them locally on your machine, you can download/copy them with applications like WinSCP or FileZilla.

If you are comfortable with UNIX/Linux commands you can view the logs files right on the server.  Using the 'tail -f {logfile_pathname}' is a great way to view the logs in near realtime.  Press the 'Ctrl-C' key combination to exit this command.
