GridGuard-VA Upgrade Deployment Script

The upgrade script is used to deploy the patches to the Initial GridGuard Virtual Appliance OVF Install as well as GridGuard-VA 4.5.1 and greater.  

It will be used to regularly by your GridGuard Aministrator to update your GridGuard Virtual Appliance to the latest version.

1. Script Installation

The installation of the script is only necessary to be completed once. It is usually completed during the initial install of the GridGuard Virtual Appliance.

1.1. Download the Script Directly to the GridGuard Virtual Appliance

If your GridGuard Virtual Appliance has access to files.syferlock.com.

1.     Log onto the GridGuard server as gridadmin.

2.     Execute the following command, to change to the appropriate directory for the script to to stored.

cd /usr/local/sbin

3.     Execute the following command to retrieve the upgrade script.  

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please be sure to replace the 'username' and 'password' with your file access credentials.

wget --no-check-certificate --http-user=username --http-password=password https://files.syferlock.com/files/products/GridGuardVA-patches/ggva-upgrade

4.     Update the file permissions to allow the script to be executed using the following command:

chmod 755 /usr/local/sbin/ggva-upgrade

1.2. Download the Script through an Intermediate Machine

If your GridGuard Virtual Appliance cannot access the files.syferlock.com site.

  1. Download the file to another machine which is able to access files.syferlock.com with the wget command.  

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please be sure to replace the 'username' and 'password' with your file access credentials.

wget --no-check-certificate --http-user=username --http-password=password https://files.syferlock.com/files/products/GridGuardVA-patches/ggva-upgrade

2.     Copy the file to the GridGuard Virtual Appliance.

3.     Place the file in the '/usr/local/sbin' directory.

4.     Update the file permissions to allow the script to be executed using the following command:

chmod 755 /usr/local/sbin/ggva-upgrade

2. Script Usage

To use the ggva-upgrade script, all you have to do execute the script followed by the upgrade filename. Here is an syntax below.

ggva-upgrade <UPGRADE_FILE>

The following command is an example of how ggva-upgrade will apply the GridGuard-VA upgrade where the file is in your current user's home directory with the filename of ggva_upgrade-5.3.9.zip

ggva-upgrade ~/ggva-upgrade-5.3.9.zip

Then restart the server.

shutdown -r now
